Acne Studios Women’s collection Autumn Winter 2014
ACNE Studios from Sweden is well known for its extraordinary as well as avantgardistic approach to fashion. Now, they are presenting their autumn/ winter collection 2014 taking „accessories“ to a new level. Cool details are added to the human body posing questions after proportion and dimension. They look like graphic details, seem to be 2-dimensional but yet – with a closer look – they offer a lot more, remembering of ethnic accessories, as they can be found in african tribes. A few weeks ago, I wrote about one of my favourite books „Extreme Beauty – The body transformed“:
This beautiful and thought-provoking book presents many of the extraordinary and diverse transformations that the body has endured in fashion over time and across cultures. It demonstrates that an undeniable beauty abides throughout the subtle and the radical manipulations that have occurred as part of the continuing evolution of the concept of beauty. Fashion has practiced extreme strategies to portray shifting concepts of the physical ideal. The physical areas of the body have been variously and strategically adjusted. They have been constricted, padded, truncated, or extended to achieve fashion’s goal through subtle visual adjustments of proportion, less subtle prostheses, and, often, deliberate physical changes.Extreme Beauty incorporates striking examples from the past and present, from Africa, America, China, Europe, Japan, and Southeast Asia to portray many of the specific ways this has happened.
If we talk about tribal wear it is so fascinating to understand the approach to it. If you like ACNE’s tribal-inspired collection for autumn and winter 2014, you might want to have a closer look to the way fashion has been one of the most extreme ways to transform the human body ever since. In the book you find a lot of thought-provoking pictures as well as interesting background information. Of course ACNE is not transforming the body physically, but it is playing with proportion and „extension“ in a great way.
